Pipe-In Text

Pipe-In Text can be used to pull response text from questions and/or to be included in an email or in another question type.

Example

{{[VariableName]}}

By adding the double curly brackets around a variable name in square brackets, the text response of the variable will display in the Title, Description, or Text of a question.

This can offer customization to questions and provides a unique reply to participant responses.

For example, if some Radio question named [VariableName] asked:

Today, I mostly felt…

Value 1. Happy
Value 2. Frustrated
Value 3. Sad
Value 4. Disgusted

and a participant answered with “Frustrated,” Pipe-In Text can display their response and offer ways to healthily handle the feeling.

It can also be sent in an email to researchers to identify participants who may need additional counseling.

This can be set up by first creating a question. In this case we used a radio question type named [VariableName] to gauge the participant’s mood.

Next, complete the question by adding response text and values in the responses section. The values will later be used to present the participant with tips tailored to their mood.

A text only question type named MoodTips is added before message bin creation to reaffirm the selection made in the previous question. This will change based on what the participant selects in the [VariableName] question type.

If the participant selects “Frustrated,” the participant is presented with various tips on how to cope with frustration using a message bin question type.

The message bin question type is created before adding to an assessment.

These tips will be presented on the participant’s device.

If the participant selects a different mood, then the corresponding message bin will follow.

Next, an assessment is created called “Mood Check.”

The created tips have been included in the “Mood Check” assessment and depending on what is selected, the participant will receive tailored tips.
