Calculated Fields is a question type in which the values are recorded in the database and used in future question types. This type can be helpful in a variety of ways such as taking question values or for taking the average response value of questions to determine next steps/statements for the Participant.

For this example:

There are three ‘Stress’ questions the participant will answer using the slider question type. The slider has a minimum value of one and a maximum value of 10, in which the step value (or increment value) is by one. The values from these questions are recorded and used in the Calculated Field question type in order to present one of two statement to the participant for this example.

If the sum values of ‘StressQ1’, ‘StressQ2’, and ‘StressQ3’ are greater than or equal to 15, ‘StressA2’ will be prompted to the Participant. If the sum values are less than 15, ‘StressA1’ will be prompted to the Participant.

To get started, start by creating slider questions.

Creating Slider Questions

Click ‘Add a New Question' to create a new question and select the desired question type.

For this example, the Slider Question Type is used.

Setting up ‘StressQ1’ asks the Participant their stress level when they wake up using the Slider Question Type.

Clicking ‘Next’, will go to the Settings form where parameters will be set and later used in the Calculated Field Question Type.

Click ‘Done' once parameters have been completed. Next step is to create the statements that are prompted to the user.

Please Note: the above steps are the same in setting up ‘StressQ2’ and ‘StressQ3’.

Creating Statements

To create a Text Only statement, click ‘Add a New Question’.

For this example, one of two statements could be presented using the Text Only question type based on the Participant’s responses.

‘StressA1’ will be presented if the response values are below a certain threshold set in the Calculated Field Question Type.

‘StressA2’ will be presented if the response values are above a certain threshold set in the Calculated Field Question Type.

Click ‘Done’ once fields are completed.

Creating Calculated Field Question Type

To create a Calculated Field Question, click ‘Add a New Question’.

For this example, select Calculated Field for the question type and complete required fields denoted by '*'. Add the questions to be calculated into the Calculated Field Logic field.

Click ‘Done’ once these fields have been completed.

Setting Up Calculated Field

Please note, the Calculated Field question type can be added to previously created Assessments and the following steps are only for this specific example in creating a new assessment for the Calculated Field.
